An interview about the Email Standards Project

Posted by Mathew Patterson on December 3, 2007 in Buzz

The fantastic email industry resource Email Marketing Reports has posted their interview with Dave Greiner, Freshview founder and a founding member of the Email Standards Project. David goes into a little more detail about the background to the project, and gives a little hint to what's been happening since launch day. Check out the interview, and also a ton of other great resources for understanding how businesses use email.

Great report! I really appreciate Dave’s attitude in the interview, very positive, and respectful. And that is SO exciting about being contacted by one of the “big players.” ... and I would like to see a service pack to Outlook 2007 released next week. :) Had a client tell me (in more or less words) my product(simple template e-mail sender for their internal use) was “broken” and that I needed to “fix” my software after 2007 was released. This one’s personal now… :)

Keep up the good work.

Glad to see somebody doing something about this massive problem!
Still having to design email flyers in tables is really bad.
Also seems that outlook 2007 has taken a step backwards, even from windows mail, it doesnt support HTML?!?! You cant even attach a html file to use as stationary, you have to design it in their wysiwig editor!

Great interview with Dave and thanks for all your efforts!  Hopefully all the efforts won’t go “unnoticed” by all the big players.  We little people sure appreciate it! ~Ray

Campaign Monitor is one of my very favorite tools for entrepreneurs (our review here). Dave Greiner and the Switch IT crew have done for email list management what 37Signals did for project management with Basecamp. And they’ve built a successful company around it, penetrated the industry with sharp and very focused marketing, and generally created a entrepreneur’s poster-child of a business. I asked Dave, the mastermind behind it all, to share a little with us about how he pulled (and is pulling it) all off.

The Email Standards Project got off to a flying start yesterday. But what are their goals? What do they actually do? And can they really influence the big corporate machines behind Outlook, Gmail and other email clients and webmail services?

Dave divulged that the domain for this group would be email-standards.org, and that the first incarnation of the site for this organisation would appear in the next month or so.
