Would you wear this shirt?

Posted by Mathew Patterson on December 6, 2007 in Site Updates

Email Standards Project supporter and talented designer Doug Neiner has answered the call for some Email Standards Project bling with a great t-shirt design.

support the future of email

Great work Doug - I’d wear that for sure! The ‘support the future of email’ is also a good tagline. We’d love to hear what you all think about Doug’s work, so leave a comment below. If you’ve got your own ideas for taglines, shirts, tattoos, or anything else, then let us know.

Grab the logo files from the What you can do page and get cracking. One way or another we will use some of your ideas to promote the Email Standards Project, and we know there is a ton of talent who support what we are trying to do here.

P.S. My contribution to the taglines is “I believe in ESP — the Email Standards Project”. What have you got?

Where can I by this shirt

Personally, no. I’d rather it had less text and more of a visual flair, plus the orange and grey is soooo 2004. :P

I’d wear it, even if it’s just out of principal. I’m really excited that someone has started this, and I can’t wait to see what kind of an impact it has. Fight the good fight!!!

I think it looks great except for the back. I don’t like tshirts that have a design in the back.

The text on the preview image is small, so for those who were wondering… the back has most of the CSS attributes the Email Standards Project is looking for major email clients to support.

@Tony - I also generally like designs that are only on the front, but in this case we are sending a message “support the future of e-mail” and trying to build awareness for the project itself, which includes the branding, logo and color(@Michael :) Having them on the front and back keeps them from competing to much.

@Matthew, I think something along the lines of your ESP tag line would be a great idea. Maybe we can set them up to have the same back but different tag lines on the front… Hmmmmm… :)

I second the comment; ess text, more impact. Can you summarize the motive or essential goal of the program in one symbol or slogan? And please don’t ask me to design one for you (too busy, etc etc). You asked if we would buy it or not. So far, no.

Nice try, but sorry, no. It’s got to be graphically interesting to be a “wearable” tee for me…

Please be sure to at least imply that you’re looking at user-facing email viewing standards, and not on the core technologies or underlying transports that are also being developed with “the future of email” in mind.

Working groups in the IETF and the Open Mobile Alliance are looking at how to reliably get email to all of your devices, work which is well complemented by user-facing usability work such as your own.

Let’s try not to confuse people, though—people need to know at least a few key buzzwords to differentiate what is happening and what isn’t! For example, when Google, says, “We support IMAP for Gmail!” and yet still has issues with displaying basic HTML on the web.

@Mathew: This shirt looks awesome already as it is! It is fun that you ask for our own ideas for taglines, shirts, tattoos, or anything else. So, I did what you asked and I grabbed the logo files from the What you can do? page. I will ask my team of volunteers from a non-profit organisation in the Netherlands about Law (called: Waarborg Consument en Recht) to come up with good ideas asap. It will be fun for us, and I hope that we can show you and all your readers our results soon.

It’s a nice t-shirt, I think the question should be “Where would you wear it?” sort of like a firefox t-shirt, it’s only cool when your with other firefox users.

Its a cool idea but i agree with some of the above comments, ie where would you ware it!  After all you dont want to look geeky for the ladies!

Posted 11:43 pm on 15 June 2008 - #34

I think I would not like to waer it, its a little unimaginative for me, could do with some more flair.
